Trance titan Armin van Buuren has officially entered drum & bass territory—and he didn’t come alone. He’s teamed up with Pendulum and the band’s frontman, Rob Swire, to release a blistering rework of last month’s progressive house release, “Sound of You.”

This time around, the music hits with the unmistakable grit of drum & bass. While the new rework maintains the melodic punch of its predecessor’s build, it quickly veers into uncharted territory for van Buuren. The drop represents a full-blown genre pivot that belies the Dutchman’s newcomer status in the drum & bass world.

“Drum & bass isn’t my usual space, but I had some ideas and it was a no-brainer to collaborate closely with Pendulum on this version,” van Buuren said in a press release. “Being in the studio together made all the difference.”

The collaboration is fitting. Pendulum built its legacy on genre fusion—metal, drum & bass and beyond—and continues to deliver boundary-breaking sets. Their new version of “Sound of You” adds yet another stylistic badge to van Buuren’s crowded sash, reinforcing his standing as an electronic music icon unafraid of evolution.
